A reinvention of a self portrait by Spanish painter, and leading artist in the court of King Philip IV of Spain and Portugal, during the Spanish Golden Age.

Diego Velázquez was an individualistic artist of the Baroque period (c. 1600–1750). Velázquez began to paint in a precise tenebrist style, later developing a freer manner characterized by bold brushwork. In addition to numerous renditions of scenes of historical and cultural significance, he painted scores of portraits of the Spanish Royal Family, and commoners, culminating in his masterpiece Las Meninas (1656).

Velázquez's paintings became a model for 19th century realist and impressionist painters. In the 20th century, artists such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Fransis Bacon paid tribute to Velázquez, by re-interpreting some of his most iconic images.

Caballero de Chiaroscuro is the next installment to the Multiverse Wars chapter of Modernizing the Masters by human American artist C.S.Hawks.

This parody remake was hand drawn & painted from scratch with graphite pencil & acrylic paint on industrial wood panel, mimicking the same techniques utilized in the Diego Velázquez original.

Prints of the painting are available for sale in 2 sizes on satin paper card stock that are signed on the back for authenticity by the artist.

A made to order special canvas panel print production is available with embellishment of texture on the canvas print performed by our artist, and framed.

The canvas panel print is made and mounted to it's panel in the way of the “Prestige Technique” Hand painted embellishments are brush sculpted by the artist with a unique technique working in acrylic medium, and continuous cure monitoring. A  Certificate of Authenticity is mounted on the back, Signed by the artist C.S.Hawks.
